Christmas is well on its way, and although we all hate shopping mall owners’ perception that Christmas starts in October, we cannot forget that Christmas is definitely the time of the year where we spend the most money on gifts for family, friends and people we don’t even like.
Many of our expensive gifts are sent overseas to family and friends that live abroad, and in these cases it is important that we make sure our packages are wrapped up safely. The Christmas season marks a period where there is an overabundance of stock and parcels that need to be delivered around the globe, so this is also a time when parcels and packages are most vulnerable to damage. Knocks and bumps, overexposure to the elements and thieving hands are play their part in ensuring that Christmas packages do not make it intact to their final destination. So how can you better protect your Christmas packaging?
- You can start by protecting your Christmas packaging in a reinforced corrugated cardboard box. With corrugation providing better support, and edge guards and corner pieces giving the box reinforcement, your Christmas package has the best chance of surviving it’s trip.
- Make sure to use protective wrapping for the items within the Christmas packaging. Bubble wrap is an excellent way of offering protection from damp, as well as giving the item cushioning when on the receiving end of a baggage handler’s throw.
- Slap your Christmas packaging with a fragile sticker (even if you are sending plush toys or other non-fragile items). This may not prevent all the expected bumps, but it might prompt any other handler to be a little more gentle.
- Use packaging tape to seal the box up nicely. You can never have too much tape, and covering the entirety of the box in clear packaging tape or even buffered packaging tape will ensure extra reinforcement and protection.
- Strap your Christmas packaging with polyester strapping. Strapping offers the best in package reinforcement and will ensure that items are firmly held within the packaging. Strapping will also stop a cardboard box from completely falling apart if it is on its last legs.
