Strapping any package will provide your package with added support and increased protection. Strapping offers the package rigidity and also stops the package from completely falling apart if the box becomes damaged.
Last week we wrote a blog about steel strapping, and three weeks previously we posted a blog about how someone can strap a package normally. But there are ways of strapping a package that doesn’t require manual strapping. The method involves using an automatic strapping machine, and if your business straps a lot of packages for courier/shipment purposes, then you may want to consider acquiring one.
Strapping machines are usually box shaped, with a flat working surface on the top of the box and a strapping chute that forms an arch across the working surface. Strapping machines run on electricity, and once plugged into the mains you can consider the machine operational. But for effective strapping you’ll need to ensure a few things first.
- Every strapping machine has an on/off button, but make sure that the machine is off when feeding the strapping.
- Strapping machines will often have a place to install a strap reel. The strap reel drum, as it is called, should have instructions on the many different models of strapping machines.
- Next, the user will have to load the automatic strap feeder. Much like loading a gun, the loose end of the polypropylene strapping is fed into a roller that then runs the strapping into the machine.
- Then it’s just a matter of turning on the machine, and placing the package beneath the chute on the machine’s operating surface. Strapping machines will normally have a tensioner dial that can be adjusted for either hard or soft tension. Then strapping is usually started on by either a pedal mechanism or via switch. It is as easy as that. Strapping is put around the package, tightened and then sealed automatically.
